Bamboos are notoriously invasive and can soon get out of control ; extrication of the roots by digging is a good option ; they can be quite resistant to weedkillers .

Carefully dig around the other plants and remove the offending roots . A nurseryman I know had a problem with one called Sasa veitchii ; he was combating  this with a lethal cocktail of Roundup weedkiller and diesel ; he was also attempting to remove the roots by digging . I havn't seen him for a while now , so can't comment about his success with this .image

Paul is right. Dig, dig, dig. You will win but not without a lot of sweat and possibly tears.

Posy is right with this one ; I eventually got rid of all of my bamboos through a lot of hard work .

They are OK in a very large garden as screens or a 'backcloth' for other plants , but definitely not for the smaller plot .

Sadly I have to agree with everybody else - the only real option is to dig out as much as possible.  Applying Roundup or similar to the leaves of any bits which reappear may work, but the bulk has to be removed manually.
