Pyracantha won't flower

I have a 15 year old pyracantha which has not flowered for 2 years, I did not prune it last year and some buds appeared then turned black, possibly frost? It is about 2 meters high and 2.5 meters wide with lots of green growth, It grows against a S.W. facing wall in Perthshire. I would like it it be a little less dense but am at a loss how to prune it as I would also like more than the one buch of berries it has produced this year. There is old growth and new growth. It has very strong branches under the new growth.

I think you will need to prune your plant back. By not pruning last year, an issue may have carried over. It is possible your shrub may have Fire-Blight or Pyracantha scab. This affects flowering.

Check your branches for die-back too. If you are unable to check because it is quite large, I think the best thing is prune it back a fair bit and make sure all the base areas are cleared of dead leaves because leaves lying around will re-infect your plant. Scrape off the top layer of your soil and lay down new a nice thick layer of compost/mulch afterwards. Clean the tools/equipment after use and wait and see.

It's very rare for this shrub to not flower. You have a southerly aspect, so it's likely to be affected by one or the other.
