Discovery apple tree.

I have a discovery  apple tree but the trunk is only one  & a half foot high,The branches  are on the lawn so i have to tie them up why is the trunk  only this high.

    Sounds like it is on a dwarf rooting stock.

    Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.
