New to the forum - Hello to everyone

On last week's Gardeners' World programme, a professor from Sheffield University, presented his garden.  Included in the garden was a "twin-hedging" idea to muffle the noise from tractors in the field adjacent to his garden.  Can anyone remember the names of the "hedging" plants he used please?
