Ferns

hi everyone. I have two large ferns in my garden. I planted them much to close together. When is the best time to move one of them?

    Hello Jennifer80

Anytime now is ideal , the ground is still warm and fairly moist ; I would trim off all the fronds from the one your moving (or both for aesthetic reasons) and to conserve moisture in the plant .

Even as they are becoming dormant , keep the roots moist at all times .image

Hi Jennifier- I'd be inclined to do it now. With damper weather at this time of year, it will establish well before winter. If it has a lot of foliage still on it, you could cut it back a bit, but most ferns adapt quite quickly. Just make sure you water well before lifting, get as big a rootball as you can,  and water well after replanting. image
