I agree with Philippa - if it suits your style and your garden, they can be very effective. Jungly gardens and so on. Each to their own
Having said that - they don't really thrive round here, so it makes my decision easier. I see people planting them in their gardens and after a couple of years (if they're still alive) they look ready for the bin
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
