Boring Lawn Question

Afternoon all, I returfed the lawn a couple of months ago and it's very lush and growing well but now it's really overgrown as it keeps raining (I'm in Surrey) so it's never dry enough to cut.
What do I do, just leave it?
I feel like i'm just neglecting it of I don't do anything
Also I have a pain in the bum Cherry Laurel tree that is dropping its berries all over the lawn where they're just making a soggy mess, will they harm the lawn? I try and pick them up but it's a losing battle to be honet as there are hundreds upon hundreds of them. I need a garden Hoover
I'm just panicking that winter is going to wreck my new lawn
Any advice would be great.
Thanks kindly

To give you an idea of how long it is,.
Not sure why the pic is sideways though
You can give your lawn a cut. Set it on the highest setting so you don't scalp the lawn too much. Don't worry too much about the berries. Your lawn is high so just mow over that area. Once you have a more desired height, you can sweep things like berries off into the borders, but they will not damage your lawn.
There you go MrsF
Easier for me to see too
Agree with B'line. Just give it a high cut, then in a week or so you can do it again a little lower. That way, you'll keep it healthy over winter. If you cut too short, it'll weaken it.
The berries won't be a problem either. The birds will snaffle a fair amount of them too, if they're anything like the ones round here
Meant to say - looks lovely and healthy!

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thankyou Borderline & Fairygirl
How did you turn the picture around Fairygirl? It was driving me mad ha ha
So can the grass be cut even though it's not dry? That's the problem, it's always damp because of rainfall.
The birds need to munch quicker ha ha
I fear not even they want the berries
Pick a 'dry' day and in the morning walk round with your rake (I can see it in the background waiting to be used!) upside down. This will knock the dew / water off the grass. Give it a few hours to dry then cut.
You right click on it and save, MrsF. I then open it and 'footer' with it
It goes into my desktop where I can move it to my picture library to upload, but it might vary depending on your device etc.
