    Whatever it was it hasn't had its middle picked out when it first started growing. It's also now almost dead, you can save the seed pod until its dry and try growing them in better conditions next year, or just bin it.

  • Well, whatever it is and wherever you got it from, it's not a lemon tree ... for future reference, lemon trees have glossy leaves.

    As has been said, pop some lemon pips in a pot.  You'll get some lemon seedlings for free.

    You can do the same with oranges and grapefruit ... my conservatory used to be full of beautifully scented citrus when my children were young as they were continually popping citrus seeds into pots. image

    Try looking up the suggested plants to compare and maybe post a better photo if none of those is correct.   Gracious much?

    I would say it started out life as a sunflower seed but never grew to it's full potential as they are hungry plants and don't live in tiny pots.

    The best way to identify it is to save the seeds and grow another next year, with better conditions then ask for ID.

    The straight foreward answer to your OP is NO.

  • Pardon me for trying to help ... I thought that as you'd bought something labelled a lemon tree seed you might just want to grow a lemon tree ... seems a reasonable supposition .... I'll remember not to offer any help next time your name pops up

    //They were bought in england//

    Then send it back for a refund, and buy a lemon ;)

    (Looks like you bought a lemon after all, badum-tshhh)....

    Rj, you knew it wasn't a lemon tree. It's pretty much dead. Why didn't you chuck it and chalk it down to experience?

    You start a thread and then you let it go out I to the world. If you don't like what it grows into , cut it off without a shilling and move on  - a bit like your lemon tree image

    It looks like the annual False Saffron, Carthamus Tinctorius. This plant is looking quite poorly because it needs full sun in very free draining soil.
