Mr Google has it as originating in warmer climates Kathy, so probably not frost hardy in the UK . Maybe take some cuttings for keeping as houseplants over winter and you can plant them out next summer.

If the stem does not have a square section, then it's not a mint.

Mentha sp ..mint would fit better with the opposite serrated leaves.
Try to crush a leaf and smell it.
It looks very much like purple Swedish ivy. Is this type hardy? Many thanks
