Planning ahead

I am aware that you can buy protective fleeces, but I would love to hear of some of the other useful, inventive things that you use to protect fragile pot plants in Winter. Many thanks  image

With no greenhouse, I have used large plastic cloches, straw sitting on the soil surround and this year, I will probably try bubble wrap around the pot and straw on the base as I have started growing some quite tender plants, so interested to see if that works. I have heard, hessian also works, so it's just a case of thinking about something that is breathable but also keeps frost off.

This is how I cover my planters in the winter. I plant them up with spring bulbs and hardy annuals. I then put protective fleece over them. Also when the bulbs start to grow it protects them from the snails, slugs and the squirrels from digging them up.
