What to do after slugged potatoes
Hi, I've just harvested my Maris Pipers after returning from ten days away to find all the leaves had gone. They were being eaten before we went away but now there are just bare stalks
The harvest isn't too bad with some lovely big spuds but quite a number were full of slugs so had to go
Two questions:
Is it ok to put the bare stems and slug filled potatoes on the compost heap? I kind of feel that's a daft question, but ask in case it will just mean loads more slugs next year, though we do have voles living in the compost so it might be a feast for them...
What should I do with the space now? I was going to sow some lambs lettuce and possibly Pak choi, and I imagine I have other veg seeds to get going, but not sure that putting them into slug infested ground is a good idea. Am I too late for more nematodes or shall I just get busy with the slug pellets?
Should add it is in a wooden box about a metre or so square and currently pretty damp
Thanks
