is this apple scab?

appears on all the ripe apples but not the unripe ones (and mostly on the side facing the sun)
Seems to be only on the skin and doesn't penetrate the fruit.
Is it apple scab and can I do anything next year to stop it.
My apples trees suffer badly from canker but I doubt that's related to this issue.
