I'd agree about the Knips - but if you have them in the middle - ish of the bed, they'll  have other planting to hide the foliage. Jap anems in white would also work, and extend the season a bit.

Don't discount having a really smart, contemporary obelisk somewhere in the bed either. You could have a perennial climber on it, or annuals like sweet peas. Or both, if you picked one of the smaller, early clematis.  In winter, it performs a good job as a feature in it's own right.

Remember to account for eventual heights too. The  shrubs/evergreens take a while to get to maturity, so you might need a few annual additions etc, but I expect you know that! image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

ok, the colour scheme may have changed a bit, I've been shopping.

Dafodils, bought yesterday, left at mums. Alliums today - nigrum, Mount Everest, nectarscordum (looked nice!).

Also got blue grass and a blue ball conifer junipers thingy. So it's a start. Oh, not all blue also a bright green here prostrate! It's turning into a rockery!

OH also brought washing in from the rain, result!

  • Loving this thread. I'm going to be cheeky and ride on your tails MrsGarden. Lots of plants to go away and look up. I'm planning a white and green scheme. when I build up my knowledge, find out what my soil is and give it some tlc. continuing with the blue / grey foliage theme...what do you think about a standard olive at the other end? I've read they are hardy, full sun should be good too, but a bit exposed to wind maybe? Other ideas were standard lavender, but these don't seem to be very high, or a tall thin (Tuscan?) conifer?
