I have a Minerette Apple tree which has grown too tall and I want to drastically prune it in height and width to bring back to its proper form. When should I do this? Should I treat the wound/s when cut? Will the tree go into shock?

Prune when dormant ( no leaves ) November to February.
Do not treat cuts but make them smooth. Any snags can let disease in.
It may send out a lot of water shoots,next season, you will need to summer prune them.
