I grew the clematis plugs from Mr Evison a few years ago GD - they have done better than any other clematis I have ever had - seemed to establish much better than the larger plants I bought. So not only a bargain, but better results ....whats not to like
Exactly Fairy, the effect of spring bulbs is wonderful - a real eye opener after the drab of winter, although we are lucky here to have camellias that between the four bushes we have flower from December until May.
That's great chicky, these Evison clematis certainly are worth the effort put in to grow on these plugs, I am very pleased with them so far. I guess Mr Evison wouldn't continue winning golds at Chelsea year after year if he wasn't a good plantsman, and I am sure there are others who grow spectacular clematis too, but Mr. E has the advantage of being a large concern with enough time and money to put into this annual show, it's not cheap to set up year after year.
Would you grow them again? I must admit that I am running out of places to plant the clematis - although we do have quite a few more trees that they can climb up, if they like the area around them.
Yes, they are Papi Jo. They are Jingle Bells, Alpina Helsingtorg, Montana Grandiflora & Mme Julia Correven. Only JB flowers over the winter (I thought they all did), the others in the spring and summer, I haven't received them yet.

Definitely would GD - but like you, am running out of vertical space
@GD,
Are those clematis plugs named varieties?
