Growing corn in blocks makes sense to me too Scroggin; it's the method I've always used with very good results and I shall continue to do what works for me and the majority of gardeners I know.
Nevertheless I'm sure there are some circumstances under which growing in rows may not prove necessary and if these circumstances pertain regularly for some particular gardeners every season there is no reason why they should change their methods.
However, just because it's the best way in their gardens doesn't mean that it works for the majority of other gardens.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
The point i was making was the same as yours dove from above, because one way works for some it doesnt follow that it cant work any other way.
my reason for getting involved in this debate was that i am a firm believer in the maxim "that if you cant respect some ones opinion then you cannot expect them to respect yours"
Like with scroggin i look forward to debating gardening issues with you in the future without the kind of remarks that fidgetbones made about bridgey.
after all i very much doubt that there is no set way of doing anything in the garden, we all have our own way of doing things, all we can do is put forward our way of doing things and if you disagree with what someone has said by all means say you disagree but be polite about it
