Apple tree
in Fruit & veg
Hi all,
Need advice?
I am moving house soon but would like to take my apple tree with me, can anyone give me any advice on how I can accomplish this without harming the tree to much.

Hi Gareth
Tell us more about your tree ... a photo would be good ... click on the camera icon to upload pics.

How big and how old is it?
And remember that if you are selling the house that the tree belongs to the house and you must specifically exclude it from the sale.
Hi all,
So it seems its not letting me upload photos.
The tree stands about 8ft its only 2 years old, and its not a bulky tree neither as I have pruned it The last cold spells. Here is what I am after I have no problem moving it but! What I would like to know is how much of the branches can i remove and is it possible to trim down a few roots, then wrap the roots up.
If the photos won't upload try reducing the size ... That usually works.

It sounds small and young enough to move to me, provided you do it when it is dormant; that means between November and early March. Dig up as much root as possible. I would temporarily plant it in a large bag or pot with moist soil or compost around it while moving it. You could prune back any larger branches at the same time. Once planted in it's new home keep it well watered during the first growing season.
Replying to the last thread.
I'm moving 3 weeks from now so moving it when the leaves have died of is a no. Will it perish if I do move it now.
Wait for as long as possible then do as Redwing suggests but I'd trim off about 2/3rd of the leaves as that is where it will lose moisture before the roots can re-establish.
