Can you identify this moth?

Hi hope you can help.  I found this moth on my lawn, not moving and afraid later it did die, but I wonder if anyone can advise what it is as I have never seen this before. It is aprox 2inches long, brown, and seems to be 'hooded'.   Many thanks.  Tony.

    Hi there pansyface i suspect you are correct ,it 's nice to see wildlife in the even it's like me old and decrepit.
