Annuals looking worse for wear

hi everyone. Here in the Paris region we have had an exceptionally wet spell over most of august which has resulted in my terrace looking like an overgrown jungle (loads of green but little flower). Now what flowers I do have have been invaded with mildew.

So o I cut everything back and see what happens or just pull it all out and prepare for winter? Some of the worst affected plants are tabacco plants, petunias and pelagoniums as well as my coleus resembling giants but now being so tall and lanky that the least breath of wind snaps the stems.

as always thanks in advance for your advice.

  • Thanks with the mildew I have cleaned off all of the affected stems and leaves but do I need to clear the soil or just let it dry naturally (assuming we actually get a couple of dry days)? I have cleared the petunias which has created free space around the other parlants would I be correct in assuming that the improved air circulation will help the overall problem?
