Thanks scroggin, that's exactly the answer I'm after: I have the same 2mm axial movement. The radial movement I have is not from the metal part of the tool attachment itself, but rather the plastic fitting between the tool and the spigot. I suspect now that's just how they work! I'm going to compare it with a multi-change from a garden centre, just to satisfy myself there's nothing wrong with the one I had delivered.
I have several of these as well, yes there is a little movement but no discernible rattle. Obelixx have you tried WD40 on the stuck head? usually releases most things after a good soak.

Yes. It's been stuck for about 20 years now. We just bought a new long handle.....
