New lawn
Need help with garden just dug out 20 tonnes of old clay and spil to be replaced with top soil also layed new turf only to find out i have a sinky patch which takes ages to drain rest of lawn is firm what can i do about sinky patch

Sounds like a drainage issue. When the clay was dug out I'm guessing you were still left with a clay bed? The water has to go somewhere and I imagine this is the area you are talking about. It might be a case of digging out a soak away in this area or putting drainage in so that the water can go somewhere.
Bit of a pain now you've laid your lawn but if you don't do anything with it it is unlikley to improve.
I have been told to drill a hole and fill with sand and pea gravel do u think this will help
The 'hole' needs to go somewhere for the water to drain to or it will just fill up and you will still have a soggy area. In practice you are creating a smaller version of a soak away. The idea is to create a 'sump' where water will go and slowly disperse. It really depends on how much water your lawn can take before you suffer with the damp area. Considering we are only at the backend of summer it sounds like your lawn can't take much.
