Weed control and soil conditioning
Hi,
We have recently moved to a new property where the landlord is allowing us to have some of the garden space for veggie growing.
He has also given us three really large concrete planters that I want to use to grow edible flowers and lettuce in come the spring.
However, there have been plants in there before and also weeds so I need to clear them out first. I then want to add a cover crop over winter to help condition the soil and prepare it for my new crops.
Any suggestions as to what I should use??
Also have access to chicken manure - how long should I let it rest before using it?
Many thanks in advance,
Helen

Hi Helen,
Have you thought about Vicia villosa? This can help with disease resistance in tomatoes if you are planning on growing some. I hope you get better advice soon, I am interested in knowing more too.
All the best and good luck with the veggies.
Thanks, I'll look into that, could work well if I use one of the troughs for my tomatoes.
