Greenhouse on gravel site?

hi all

We are buying a 4x6 greenhouse for a tight-ish spot In the garden. The only site we've identified as realistic is on a large gravel area next to our decking. I've done so much research but can't find a definitive answer to my question - is this a good idea?! To place the greenhouse (the bottom is shiplap timber) onto a square frame with pegs directly onto/into the gravel? Longevity? Pests?

I assume the gravel will be good for drainage too as a bonus?

any help and advice gratefully received!

thank you

  • I had a lean-to greenhouse standing on gravel that was laid over compacted soil. It was an Alton GH so came with a custom made concrete plinth.Although we have plenty of strong winds here it proved robust.

The gravel was not an issue in other ways, though I laid a central flag path as it is more comfortable to stand on. You do have to be careful about spilling compost etc as it is hard to clean up. Good for damping down on hot days as you get more surface area.
