    ??I’m still recovering too!!

Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.

  • Is it particularly difficult to harvest seeds, do you think?    I'm going to try, 'cos at that rate, I could have a nice little business going in the Valleys image

I believe that the plants used to be sterile, not sure about plants grown from the very expensive new seeds.

  • Ah ha - well, I've done a little bit of research and this seed growing malarkey is new [to this plant image, so I'm still settling for 3 plants for £10.

Talking of sterile plants, last year I bought a batch of Calendula 'Power Daisy' - not like me to buy Annuals, but Boy, did I get my money's worth.  They have gone on and on, right up to the first snow fall !!  Definitely worth getting ....

  • My VB were sprouting beautifully until the Beast from the East.  They now look pretty grey and shrivelled.  Are they likely to sprout from the base still?  They only self-seed in the cracks of the path.

I had some that I was going to remove side shoots from for cuttings. They look pretty sick now, so I will cut them down to a foot and see.  No cuttings, but I do have seed heads I can scatter on some compost.

They do sprout from the base,  I then cut the tops right off to the ground. mine are always very late here, so don’t give up on them.

They self seed everywhere on the sunny side of the garden, even in the paving cracks and under a bench. I never see any on the shady side.

I can't work out how to select and post one picture but there is a picture of a vb seedling on this thread. It's number 14.

With an expected severe frost this week end, I expect my Verberna Bonsaries to suffer. I have soom growth forming on mine and have just given them a heavy multch of bark chip to hopefully protect the roots. Expect any growth to be killed by frost over this week end
