Ruby Chard or Beetroot
in Fruit & veg
I stupidly planted ruby chard and beetroot at similar times and did not label them. Now I don't know which is which as they look so similar, please can anyone help?

I think the ones on the left look most like Ruby Chard ... but they both need similar growing conditions and you can eat the leaves of both so no real problem ........... you'll know which ones are beetroot eventually when the roots swell

I'd say left is chard and right is beetroot . Does it matter particularly? They grow in the same conditions so you could plant them out together. Beetroot leaves are as edible and tasty as the chard - just smaller so there's no real harm in some short term confusion. Once they get going you'll know for sure quite quickly because the plants are a different shape - beetroot is dumpier with short stems to the leaves, chard much taller with far more pronounced stalks.

... I went to a traditional Pitmans college on leaving school a very long time ago (pre computer of course) ... when I returned to work after raising the family and doing stuff at home for years I did a refresher course to get good office IT skills ... my typing speed was too fast for the teaching programmes .... it caused much amusement because I had to slow down in order to pass the modules and get the certificates
