What size root , if any, can I leave in the ground?

Runners have rooted deeply.

If you just pull the runners up along their length you don't need to worry about the small rootlets which rip off and stay in the ground as it won't regenerate from them.  However, the deep main root at the beginning of each runner needs to be dug out completely.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Great - apart from the deep root that is!

    Thanks Bob
