Some largely dead branches on an elder have these green growths on them. Any idea what they are?
How odd! My best guess would be some kind of fasciation, possibly caused by a virus.
were they made dead by weedkiller?
That's what I thought nut. A similar thing happened to my snowberry.
I think the branches (trunks, shoots, ?) were dead. They are right on the property line, in fact I think the main root started next door, so they might have used weedkiller -- we never touch the stuff.
wise move on your part S&T, horrible stuff.
pretty sure that's the last gasp of a weedkilled elder
