Which is Better Cow or Horse ??

I have been given the opportunity to get my hands on ( in buckets or Bags ) an amount of Manure !

Which will be best for my uses of surrounding fruit tree's / Roses

The Smells are something I expect having previously used Cattle Manure from the same source in the past.

It is something our neighbors commented about the other year but them being what I would call Die Hard Townies their remarks just brought a smile to my face & the smell only hung around for a few hours.

But since the last time my source has purchased an Horse so he says I can choose which variety I require ??

He tells me the Equine version is well rotted which I have read is a requirement with Horse Manure as was the Bovine stuff he supplied me the other year

I consider Manure to be Manure and Both Horse & Cow appears to eat the majority of the same food types. I just thought given the choice which Brand would be Best for my requirements.

Depends a bit on what you want to grow but more on what you soil is like. Cow muck is usually stronger & stickier, it can make clay soil even heavier. Horse generally lighter with more "heat" breaks down quicker. If you have very light soil & want to grow brassicas or celery then Cow muck every time they love it! If your soil is very heavy clay horse muck will be better for you. Well rotted in both cases is best.

I would consider the soil to be NOT heavy and we have fruit tree's in LARGE oak Barrel sections which obviously need feeding more than they would if planted in the ground.

I have used Blood & Bone Meal in powder form for the last couple of years and the Plum tree I thought had seen better days as fruited well this season

Someone told me Old used Coffee grinds are good for Rose's ?? and I mulched the rose bush with that last winter. Which also seems to KEEP the local cat's off the front garden

I think I will Mulch down with Equine Manure this Autumn
