I don't think authorities concerned with transport care about the environment.The latest I heard about HS2 talked about the number of supporters it had. I think there are probably a great many more against it. For the amount of journey time it could save, the financial imput and above all the cost to the environment are both disproportionate, but as with the trees at Wisley, these people just don't seem to care about the countryside at all.
Surely it's not beyond the wit of man to devise a route which doesn't have to destroy many ancient trees. What did amuse me though was 'an expert' being interviewed on BBC going on about the peace and tranquility of Wisley. He could hardly be heard for the noise of traffic from just the other side of the boundary. I acknowledge that the noise levels would be greatly increased without that boundary planting.
