Is this Mildew or some other Fungus
This bush (an evergreen) having been in its position for some 10 years and is pruned every spring to control its growth and shape. It grows against a west facing wall.
Noticed for sometime the lower part of the bush the leaves have a white powder dusting on them and as seen the very lower leaves have dropped off.
Have tried a remedy from the net,
1 tbs Bicarb
1 tsp Veg oil
1 tsp Dish wash (Fairy)
All mixed in a gall of water and sprayed on, soaking the leaves. Did this 3 days ago with visual improvement. Is this mix too weak or done more often or expecting too much too soon.
Is this Mildew or another Fungus and what would be the best treatment. Also would the lower bare branches regrow their leaves when treated.

Do you know what shrub it is? I can't identify it, the leaves are quite affected by mildew. Evergreen shrubs can get tired and it's not unusual for mature shrubs to have damage like that along the bottom. But, it's always good practice to make sure the base of the shrub is well mulch to minimise moisture loss. Bark Mulch or rake in nice thick layer of compost every year in spring. It's looking like a shrub that is in very dry condition and it's suffered a bit.
I suggest cutting back the base leaves, not too harshly, but just to leaves that are growing on semi-soft wood. Hopefully by next year, you should start to see new growth.
Thank you,
Cannot remember the name of the bush, but its an evergreen and currently its 2m x 2m in size.
As for the Mildew along as you suggested, is the mixture I mentioned correct/weak and how frequently should the leaves be treated.
thank you
I have read about this mixture, and the measurement sounds about right to what I have seen. Some don't always include the oil. Unfortunately, I have never tried it to know if it's effective. I'm sure someone may give you a review on that soon. It's not recommended on some types of leaves, but on evergreens, it's fine. Avoid applying it in full sun and I'm sure you may not need further treatment sprays until rainful. Good luck.
I use a milk & water spray, seems to keep it at bay.
