Totem pole feeder

What to do with all of those coconut halves? Try making a totem pole feeder. Each shell either contains feed, is used to collect water or contains soil and sedum seeds. Very popular with our local woodpeckers!

Do you shin up that telegraph pole to fill them Thh?  image I don't buy the halves, I buy the 3/4 ones and reuse them when the suet is finished to hold sunflower hearts in some of the dense shrubs to keep the greedier birds off them.

  • I made a big pole with a plastic cup on the end (was going to use a coconut but couldnt find a way to fix it to the pole). I bet there are lots of creative solutions to the 'what do i do with my empty coconut shells?' problem. I do like yours!

IYes, connecting the coconut would have been difficult, I can't imagine they'd take too well to having a drill put through them.  Will be interesting to read if anyone else reuses theirs.
