Box tree - strange brown capsules?

We have a couple of ornamental box tree / shrubs, each about 2m tall. The one nearest our house has developed these strange little rust coloured balls. Any idea what it is and how to treat it?

Have you tried touching them to see if they break up? I can't see them properly, but your shrub does look a bit like an Osmanthus Burkwoodii. Those brown blobs could be dried up flowers from earlier in the season maybe? Did you see any white flowers this year?
