Gardeners World free Tomato seed

Hi all,

In my subscription magazine to Garders World, sometime back now. I was delighted to find free packet of tomato seeds. After carefully sowing and watching the seedlings grow...all 53 of them, no failures. I had some struggles with just where I was going to grow them all! They're now ready! I've had two previous large helpings and more to follow (see pics). Yes, my planting was a little unconventional and to be honest after pricking and and planting on 53, I sort of gave up the will. However, they're still growing, looking fab! Unfortunately, I've developed an allergy to the plant, so my partner harvests them now. Can still eat them!! ????

Wow! Mine germinated well too, though I only sowed a few. Can't imagine trying to deal with 53 but what a brilliant and beautiful harvest image.

  • So are mine, although white fly seems to be attacking them (I think from the neighbouring cucumber plant).  I have given plenty of the plants to friends, and we have kept 6 or 7 for ourselves and I have seeds left over for sowing next year.

I think it was just called 'Cherry'. The packet is still in the shed, I will check in a bit.

I think they were just called 'Red Cherry'.  They definitely weren't Gardener's Delight.

I found an old open packet in my seed tin. It was from a GW freebie from a few years ago. They germinated and I have a good crop  - for me that is.

    They were gardeners' delight too.

    In London. Keen but lazy.

    Yup - Red Cherry.

And I had forgotten the lettuce I've been growing was from the same source. Was eating some Iceberg at lunchtime today thinking how brilliant they've been - crisp, abundant and they seem to be slug resistant because I've done nothing to protect them and there's been almost no attack at all. I know they're iceberg but I've been treating them as cut & come again as I don't tend to use much in one go and they're great.

That's the one. I grew the Iceberg, also fantastic. I've a very small garden. I think I got a bit carried away! growing Ramano Peppers, fingers crossed for healthy ones!

My free red cherrys are still green. Seems to be a nice healthy crop though.
