Green tomatoes
I have three tomato plants in a growbag and two are producing a ready supply of red tomatoes, but one is overburdened with fruit but they are all green. The variety of this plant is Alicante and this plant looks the healthiest of the three. Obviously I will wait to see what happens but has anyone had experience of this happening in the past. I have to add that I planted the tomatoes late because I had to wait to get the greenhouse fitted in May, and I fitted an auto-watering system to keep them going whilst I was on a cruise earlier in the month and they survived ok and didn't drown while I was away. Any comments appreciated.

You are doing nothing wrong. Just hope for sunnier weather in September. I don't know Alicante but in my humble experience, the speed of ripening is not related to the size of the tomato. The big ones redden up just as quickly as Gardeners Delight once they reach full size. Good luck. Ian
Hi Inglezinho,
I didn't see your reply until today and as you say the tomatoes are just starting to turn red but the plant is really loaded and it is turning really slowly. One thing that I will do differently next year is plant only two tomato plants in each grow bag because I feel that three in a bag is overcrowded. Thanks for your reply, Jim.
You can get round the problem by placing (after cutting out the holes) another grow bag on top and planting in that.
My wife has two cousins in Wales who use a double plant pot setup and place a big pot on the border soil, fill it with grow bag compost and then put a smaller pot on the top and plant the tomato plant in that and they have been doing this for years and always have great results. I will try out several different ways until I get the results that is best for my situation, as my greenhouse is on paving blocks. Thanks for the response.
