Tomatoes just won't ripen

Hi everyone, my two tomato plants (bush cherry) are outside in those awful plastic greenhouses that rip a lot. Both have produced lots of tomatoes, but neither of them have ripened in any way shape or form. Now I've noticed that some of the branches are actually dying off (the little fruits on them are still there but the bit where they attach to the branch has gone brown). Is there anything I can do?  Please help - feeling extremely despondent image

It's probably not warm enough. Can you bring the plants indoors onto a sunny windowsill? If not your best bet may be to cut the sprays where the stem is dying back and put the fruit in a drawer or a box with a ripe banana. It doesn't always work, but it often does

I think I can see some grey mould (Botrytis) on the truss stems - the tomatoes on the end of those may not ripen if they didn't mature enough before the stem was killed.

Look for this furry grey mould on other stems and cut affected parts off as it produces clouds of spores which will quickly affect other stems and leaves.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thank you so much Scroggin, Raisin and Bob - I will do as you say and hopefully I will have tomatoes this year image.
