ants' nest

I have an ants' nest in my new home's front garden. I am a member of the Soil Association so do not wish to kill, just evict. Is that possible?

Pour a bucket of water slowly over it ... give it a really good soaking ... they like dry soil to build their homes, so if you keep the area damp they'll move on.  image

I had four Green Woodpeckers hunting for ants on the back lawn this morning. They would have found plenty as there are lots of ant nests out there.

We also have an ants nest at the side of our pond ... but that area is raised and quite dry.  We often watch the blackbirds 'anting' on it. image

Mine is a natural pond so there are no dry bits. It's pretty much bog all around. My ants know no shame. They'll set up any old where. image
