what's this invading my lawn

image

Any ideas what this is?

It's 3-4cm high and large patches are invading my lawn in several places. Mowing doesn't kill it, and a spring application of lawn weedkiller this year didn't kill it either.

In hope, I just gave it another dose of the weedkiller.

That looks very like Ajuga reptans 'Atropurpurea'

A useful and attractive groundcover plant.  I find it is shallow rooted and easily hand weeded out of areas where it's not wanted.  I wouldn't really call it invasive.

That looks like it,but it most definitely IS invasive.

I have 3 patches on the lawn each about 3x1 metres.

That much hand weeding is out of the question!

Easily removed by hand. Amazing how much you can clear in half an hour!
