What variety is this old pear tree

imageI have a lovely old pear tree that was strangled by ivy. I got the branches cut back and the ivy off and have been feeding and watering. I have been blessed with a crop of 35 tasty pears that fell from the tree in the last 2 weeks (from beginning of August 2017). I would now like to know what variety it is and why it bears fruit in August when most pears fruit in October? I live in Sheffield, S Yorkshire.image

Different pears are ripe at different times.  Beth and Williams ripen early, conference later.  One of the experts at a Fruit day may be able to identify it for you.  See RHS gardens for details.
