Roses

Can anybody offer advice on the problem I have with my roses please. I have 10 rose bushes all of which were bought over the last 3 years from the Royal Horticultural Society. They all start brilliantly in the early spring with healthy new leaves & stems. I get beautiful blooms on them all. I use Empathy after plant rose food. My problem with the leaves just gets worse & worse to the extent 2 of my bushes are practically bare apart from the blooms. I have attached a picture to show what is happening.

Are all the leaves looking like the two leaves you have posted? Leaf drop is definitely the classic signs of black spot. Feeding when there is black spot will not really make any difference. Some roses are more prone to black spot, and if you group roses together in a border, it's easier for black spot to spread to the other shrubs.

I suggest you remove dead leaves that have dropped immediately. Don't compost the dead leaves, and before winter, make sure the base areas are totally cleared of dead leaves. In spring next year, make sure you lay a new thick layer of good compost/manure to start your roses off.
