Acid-loving plants

We've built an ericaceous raised bed for a Rhoddy and Pieris which have outgrown their pots. There's also a Camelia to go in. All are older plants inherited when we bought the house. My question is 'what acid-lovers have interest later in the year?' I'm on the RHS site but can't seem to narrow down a good flowerer for summer. Any ideas guys?

If you go to the Plant Selector feature on the RHS site you can search for summer interest plants that like ericaceous conditions.   783 suggestions came up.  Clearly I haven't looked at them all but roses, dahlias and sanguisorbias should make a start on giving you summer colour and on into autumn.

Blueberries are lovely shrubs. There are dwarf ones. Pretty late spring flowers, fruiting now, lovely autumn colour image

There are lots of plants that will be happy in acidic soil - you presumably don't have to restrict yourself to ones that ONLY grow in acidic soil. Just avoid the ones that need lime.

  • Obelixx I am working my way thru that huge list. I agree tho not everything has to be acid loving just lime hating. This one I love tho: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/gardeningadvice/3350663/How-to-grow-Enkianthus-campanulatus.html Tks guys good advice as always on here.

    Be a little careful.

Some Rhodo's , Camellia, Pieris and Enkianthus can grow rather large.

It's lovely but is this to be an entirely shrubby bed?  No herbaceous perennials or bulbs to extend the season and add interest in form and height?

Hydrangea , Clethra , Desfontainea , Crinodendron ; maybe one of the shrubby gentians ; all these can be kept to manageable proportions as well as being of some interest .
