Deer in my garden

have a problem with deer, during the night and some times during daylight, about 20 of them will come down my road from the local wood.

My front garden is the problem, bedding plants, they will eat or pull them up, which costs not only myself but neighbours, a lot of money.

I have tried crushed mothballs/coffee grounds, but no success. What I would like to know is what bedding plants do deer hate, and therefore not eat?

How long is a piece of string?

I'm not sure there's any bedding plant they wouldn't eat. You may have to try planting something else more robust instead, and even then, it's still tricky.

It's very hard to keep deer out of any garden unless it's well fenced. There isn't much they won't have a go  at I'm afraid. image

They do say that peeing on your boundaries will keep deer away. Not sure how your neighbours would react image. Human hair on the fences is also reputed to work.

Alternatively plant things that are poisonous - foxgloves and euphorbias, for example. I can't promise they won't eat them but it may deter them from a second go if they get a belly ache. Whatever you do don't try roses. They just love those flowers image

Deer have given my sedum the "Chelsea chop" ..... trouble is it's now August not May image

There is a project locally to reintroduce Eurasian lynx forest cats to control the rising numbers of muntjac .... and there's considerable support so it just could happen!
