Help- russet leaves

image

My Cotoneaster (?) tree has been very happy for 4 years but suddenly is now full of russet coloured leaves which are withering.

The tree next was happy but again several russet coloured leaves are appearing in the greenery.

it seems as there is something in that area of the garden.

Please can anyone help? Thank you

Where is it withering? I don't see it looking too bad from the photo. Some Cotoneasters do go orangey and even reds in autumn time. Horizonalis can do that and Bullatus usually turn reddish tones. Sometimes local weather conditions can make leaves turn oranges and reds, which is very desired. Long sunny periods followed by cool nights can sometimes create these colours too.

    Thank you for your help.

The top of the tree has withered leaves and it has never gone this colour before.

i think I'm panicking as we planted two 'Red Robins' and a cherry tree which have died.

When did you plant the Red Robins and the cherry?  We had a dry winter and the spring and early summer were very dry too.  Trees and shrubs planted any time within the past 12 months will have struggled without copious watering ... I'm talking about a couple of buckets of water  at least twice a week for each tree, from early March onwards, whether it's rained or not.

I think your cotoneaster is reacting to the earlier dry spring followed by some high summer temperatures and now some cooler ones by deciding that autumn is coming ... all evergreens lose leaves and grow new ones from time to time ... just not all at once like deciduous trees.  Sometimes the weather conditions result in them losing more and it's then more noticeable.
