Identification of creeping weed

imageimageimage

Please can anyone identify this evil creeper. It started sending shoots up through lawn and then infested the greenhouse. We have started trying to dig it out but it has really long underground tendrils which go for miles and are really difficult to get out! We'll end up digging up the whole lawn soon! Any help on what it is and what to do to get rid of it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Those look like suckers from the roots of a poplar tree ....... look around, there'll be one in the vicinity ... or maybe one has been felled recently and that has stimulated the production of suckers.

  • Brilliant, thanks for the help! There's one about 20 yards away.

Quite what you can do about  it tho', I'm not sure ........ is it your tree?

  • No, it's in a neighbouring park so council owned. Will just have to keep cutting them back whenever I can, I think. Thanks again.
