Hi dtaggart. Its a Hypericum, probably Hypericum calycinum.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
way too tall for H. Calycinum. IMHO.

As an aside. When I was at college studying Garden Design: if anyone ever used H. Calycinum in a planting plan, our tutor used to circle it in red pen and write " nasty little plant" beside it.
Every time I see it , I think " nasty little plant".
