Keith-16, if you are based in west Lancashire, it may be a bit risky, especially if you are not likely to grow things along the base to shelter the root area.
Another self-clinging climber that I think will suit your situation but not as fast growing, but will give you a similar effect, but hardier. Pileostegia Viburnoides, the climbing Hydrangea. The leaves are nice shape and shade as a climber. In summer, small white/cream flowers are the perfect partner to the dark leaves.

i will go a garden centre and take a look at what they have a make a choice
