Spuds

This year I decided to grow spuds in containers using homemade compost. I've never seen spuds grow like that. They grew so high & one plant passed 6'. Has anyone else experienced this?

I decided to try growing spuds in one of my raised beds this year - also for the first time. Like you, I used homemade compost, some comfrey leaves to line the holes, and a sprinkling of granular organic compost over the top a few weeks later. I also earthed up by emptying the contents of two small grow bags over the plants.

Like you, I have seen phenomenal growth - up to my head! Lots of flowers, but massive plants. I can only think it's a combination of easy soil in the raised beds, rather than earth, and all the sun and rain we have had. Only hope the harvest is as good!
