Agastache

Peanuts3Peanuts3 Posts: 759

My agastache i bought this year has yellowing leaves. It looks like it has run out of nutrients in a way. It is either blackadder or blue boa. Can't remember which one.

Any ideas why this may be. I'm on light sandy soil with partial sun.

Thank you.

    Hello Peanuts3

I don't think you've any problem there ; probably just a late-summer colouration . They appear healthy enough . Have they been getting enough water ?

Well it's rained lots. I did water them when we had the dry spell in early summer. And they have flowered since early June so happy with them. Just seems a weird colouring of the leaves.

    Something is not right.
I've lost a few to virus, but the leaves just drooped and the stems went black at the base.
I've still got about 25 and the leaves are all a good dark green and they're flowering well

Hmm maybe I'll try contacting the rhs and see if they have any ideas. Thank you.

I'd be very interested to know what they say if you get a reply Peanuts

Will do Pete8, have just emailed them.  3 - 10 day response rate.

    My response from RHS.

I think your agastache is just reacting to the environmental conditions this year. It was very hot and new plants have struggled to get going. I would continue to water well in dry period and see if things improve next year.

    Hmm....

:) well, they're not wrong as far as the temps are concerned.
But I've never had to give them any special attention, they seem to thrive in the heat and dry, so long as they're watered now and then.
I'd have thought you would have had problems with more susceptible plants before the agastache  were affected.
    Are they still going ?

Yeah they are fine, just look ropey.

I've also got some echinops that have struggled, i planted 9 plants and 3 have survived.  The RHS said they are known to be difficult to get established but once they are they look after themselves.  So at least I learnt something there...

Oh well, let's hope we both have better luck with agastache next year then..
