I think those bright colours are for creators of outdoor rooms (or whatever the 'in' term is), not for serious gardeners. Nothing wrong with it if that's what you like.image

I love cream and green on garden sheds.  Did myself in our last garden.   However, here the sheds are staying brown as they are smaller and the garden is larger and in need of total reclamation and re-design.  Sheds haven't even made it to the list of things to do.

Agree that in a small garden fence colour is important but think the colours should be subtle - pale, entle blues and greens will make them seem larger and brighter but, like Hosta, I think dark colours help them disappear and show off the plants.

That's good to hear, they are at the end of the garden and hopefully the green will take the planting colour to the end rather than a blunt wooden fence look, I have planted a climbing rose back there to to get some green cover and colour, it's going well but will probably need a bit of attention re training etc.

Nutcutlet has a very good point, some people enjoy the gardening process so to speak and others just like to sit out. I have neighbours who don't like the process and do very little but when they do it is to try to get the outdoor room look as they want to sit and enjoy when they  aren't working. I can see it's like horses for courses.

Personally I enjoy both but the planting is more important for me these days so we find places to sit amongst the planting,  does that make me a grown up gardener? ;)

Well, I love purples and lilacs but have never thought of using it on a fence.   Look forward to pics of the finished job.
