Improving soil

We have very sandy, light soil which dries out quickly so we dig in lots of manure and compost. I have heard that coffee grounds and banana skins (we drink/eat a lot) make great soil additives.......is this true?

Any advice on this gratefully rec'd.

THANKS.

You can compost them (with other vegetable waste) and add them. That would be better.

Coffee grounds are more useful as a slug/ snail deterrent if you have a lot then make a "ring" round susceptible plants. Bananas are supposed to contain a lot of potassium so I agree add to compost.

If coffee beans deter slugs ..this is  possibly to easy...but could it deter slugs if mixed into the compost before mulching...?
