White mold on potato plants

Hi,

It's my first post here so I hope I'm doing this right. We have grown potatoes for the first time this year and our first crop was great. The second crop has what extensive giggling has shown to be white mold on the stems. Will the potatoes be ruined or will they be salvageable? We have tomatoes growing nearby--is the mold likely to spread across plant types?

Thanks!

Have you a photo? Are we talking mildew or blight?

  • Hi,

Thanks I'm trying to attach one but am having trouble.

Also, sorry for the typo in the first post--predictive text got the better of me.  It should have said "extensive googling" not "extensive giggling"...

Stem rot like that is likely to mean the plant will collapse shortly. I think you will have to dig up the potatoes and use them quickly.  If the potatoes are soft or squidgy do not use them.

  • Thanks so much! That helps a lot. We'll get digging!
